Hey everyone! I'm looking to upgrade my graphics card from a 6700XT to a 5070 Ti for better performance at 1440p-240Hz and 4K-60Hz. My current setup includes a TUF Gaming A520M-Plus motherboard, a Ryzen 7 5800x3D CPU, 32GB of DDR4-3600 RAM, and a 550W PSU. I'm thinking of getting a new Seasonic Focus GX 850W PSU as well, but I'm curious if I should also upgrade my motherboard to a B550. The A520 has served me well so far, but I'm worried about the additional power draw. Also, I have a FreeSync monitor that doesn't officially support G-Sync; will switching to Nvidia affect its performance? Would love to get your thoughts on any potential issues with this upgrade!

You don't need to switch to a new motherboard for this upgrade. The extra 200W won't really stress the A520 since the GPU pulls most of its power directly from the PSU. Your 5800X3D has worked fine on that board, so the new GPU shouldn't cause any issues. The A520 is PCIe 3.0, which could mean a slight performance hit, but it's usually not noticeable with high-end GPUs. If you don't need PCIe 4.0 features now, you're all set to keep your A520.
Go ahead with the upgrade. Just make sure you get the 850W PSU like you planned; it's a great choice, and it'll give you enough power for future components too. Most FreeSync monitors work fine with Nvidia GPUs over DisplayPort, even if they aren't officially G-Sync compatible. Just check the Nvidia Control Panel to enable variable refresh rates manually. If there's any flickering, it's often minimal and manageable.

Thanks for clarifying! That's reassuring! I've been worried about stressing the board.
