I'm curious about how many developers here actively contribute to open source projects. For those who do, how do you show those contributions to others? I understand many people participate because they enjoy it, but I also see it as a valuable proof of work and skill. Is there a good way to showcase your contributions, considering that GitHub's commit graph can be vague and doesn't differentiate between your own projects and open source contributions? Am I missing something in this regard?

For me, it's about fixing bugs or adding features I need for my projects. I’ve even published some small tools I created just to see if they could help someone else. It's satisfying to know that my work might assist others who have similar needs.
I keep track of my significant contributions in a GitHub README. It’s an easy way to show what I've done without too much hassle. The way I see it, any bit of help counts, even if it seems small.
I contribute whenever I can, especially if I'm using an open source project and notice a bug or issue. If it's broken and I can fix it, why not help out? That's my way of giving back to the community.
Honestly, I don't have much interest in contributing at all. It feels like such a big commitment when I'm just trying to get my own work done, you know? But I totally get that others are motivated by the projects they use.
I regularly contribute to various tools and manage a project that involves compliance work. I list my major contributions clearly in my profile so potential employers can see what I’ve been involved with. Keeping a detailed record helps!
