I'm diving into web development and planning to start studying data structures and algorithms (DSA) in January 2026. Before I jump into that, I'm curious about which programming language I should focus on for hackathons. Is JavaScript a good fit, or should I consider something else?

Focusing on one programming language until you're really comfortable with it is the way to go. Diving deep will pay off when you're trying to whip something up under pressure.

JavaScript is totally fine for hackathons. But here's a little nugget of wisdom I wish I had: hackathons are more about having fun and networking than creating something groundbreaking. Don't get too caught up in coding; make sure to enjoy the vibe and meet new people!

You know, DSA isn't a huge focus for hackathons. They usually revolve around creating a project or solving specific challenges, instead of speed or efficiency in coding. JavaScript works just fine! Having some frontend skills can really enhance how people view your project too.

Honestly, the language you choose is less important than your comfort with it. If you have teammates, everyone should be on the same page with whatever language you pick. A better approach is to think about what project you want to build at the hackathon and make sure you're prepared for it!
