Hey everyone! I recently made the jump to Linux Mint with XFCE, coming from Windows 11. So far, it seems like a smoother experience than what I remember from my teenage years back in the 2000s. However, I'm a bit worried that XFCE might not be the best choice for me. I'm really missing a blue light filter tool; while I've tried using Redshift GTK, it seems like the GUI doesn't load, and I have to adjust settings via command line every time, which feels inconvenient.
I imagine KDE Plasma might provide a more seamless experience, especially since I don't spend a lot of time just looking at my desktop — I mainly work in a browser. I'm just concerned if KDE Plasma would be significantly heavier on my specs: a 2019 Asus Zenbook with an AMD Ryzen 5 3500U, SSD, and 6 GB of RAM. So, is KDE Plasma actually that much heavier? Can I just switch to KDE on my existing installation, or would it be better to find a new distro? Thanks for any help!

Your hardware is decent enough that you probably won't miss the difference. Just make sure you know that KDE does use more RAM compared to XFCE, so if you're running memory-hungry apps, that could be a factor.
I recently moved from Mint to Fedora and found KDE load times to be about 3x slower, but once it’s up, it runs smoothly. Just keep an eye on how heavy your web apps are.
With your laptop specs, you should hardly notice any difference in performance. In fact, KDE can be much lighter on resources compared to Windows 11!
In general, the software you run, like browsers and games, will use way more resources than your desktop environment. So, KDE shouldn't really add much overhead for you.
Honestly, on your hardware, the difference should be negligible or non-existent. If you're mainly doing everyday tasks, you'll likely be fine with KDE.
