I'm currently living in Germany and working as a DevOps engineer. My wife has a background in German law, and we both have established careers, family, and friends here, along with a reasonably priced apartment in a nice area. However, we fell in love with Australia last year and are considering moving there, with me obtaining a skilled visa. Initially, we would be living on just one income, so I'm wondering: can we afford life in Australia with a 5-6 year old kid on a single salary? Also, what are my chances of finding a job if we're open to different cities and areas?

I lived in Melbourne for a few years after moving from Scotland. Overall, living in Australia can be affordable since salaries are pretty decent here. DevOps roles are primarily in larger cities like Sydney, Brisbane, and Melbourne. You can find opportunities in Perth, but they’re rarer. Just keep in mind that property prices can be daunting—renting is a common option since many people own multiple properties. Good luck with your move!
Thanks for your input! I’m leaning towards renting initially since I can't see myself moving permanently just yet.
