Is Low Latency RAM Better Than High Clock Speed RAM for Gaming?

I've been reflecting on the RAM I chose for my Ryzen build about a year ago. I picked a CL36 7200MHz kit over a CL28 6000MHz option. While I know that lower latency usually translates to better performance, I'm curious how it stacks up against RAM with a higher clock speed and higher latency. I searched for benchmarks, but most only compare latency at the same clock speeds. Any insights on this would be appreciated!

The performance really depends on your CPU and motherboard. For Ryzen systems, low latency (like CL28) paired with speeds around 6000-6400MHz tends to do well, especially for gaming. If you're set on 7200MHz with CL36, you might need to do a bit of fine-tuning to see a noticeable benefit, and even then, it might not be as critical for performance software like gaming.

Thanks for that info! It’s fascinating how tuning can impact performance.
