Is My 9800X3D Idle Temp Normal?

I just built a new PC with a 9800X3D and installed a Tryx Panaroma 360 AIO cooler. Normally, I use Noctua thermal paste, but I decided to go with the pre-applied Tryx paste this time. I'm seeing an idle temperature of 49C, and even when I crank the fans up to 100% or turn them off completely, the temperature doesn't budge. I did run Cinebench 23 for about 15 minutes, and the highest temperature I recorded was 72C. Is that acceptable? By the way, my ambient temperature is 25C, and I've come across conflicting opinions on whether 49C idle is too high or normal.

Honestly, 49C at idle is perfectly fine. Idle temps can vary a lot because of background processes in Windows — things like updates or telemetry can keep the CPU busy. It’s more important to focus on how the CPU performs under load; a max temp of 72C during Cinebench is good! For context, my 7800X3D hits around 80C in Cinebench with my Dark Rock 4 cooler. You're doing great!

Thanks! That's a really good idea. I'll keep an eye on power and wattage for sure.

Yep, that idle temp sounds normal to me. Just remember that the only reliable idle temp is what you see in BIOS; Windows has a lot going on that can artificially bump those numbers up. If your BIOS temp is also 49C, it might be worth questioning, but it sounds like you're in the clear!

Your 49C seems to fall within the normal range. CPUs can operate at different temperatures depending on workload, and since your Cinebench max was 72C, you should be all good. Just be mindful of ambient temps too!
