I'm looking to upgrade my CPU and motherboard because I recently scored a great deal on 64GB of DDR5 RAM. Currently, I'm using a Ryzen 7 3700X and an MSI X470 Gaming Plus Max, and while they're still pretty capable, I plan to use them in my server setup. I'm considering upgrading to a Ryzen 7 9800X3D paired with an MSI PRO X870-P motherboard. Does this choice make sense for my gaming needs? I really enjoy playing resource-heavy city builders like Cities Skylines 2 and Anno 1800, as well as games like Satisfactory and a few others. Also, I'm thinking about getting a new monitor, possibly a 1440p at 120Hz. Overall, do you think this setup will keep me satisfied for a good few years? Thanks for any insights!

You’ll be fine with that setup! The CPU is a powerhouse, and while the motherboard might seem like overkill, it won’t hurt to have some extra features. Just make sure your monitor is at least 1440p 240Hz—it’ll make a big difference with games that intensive!

Good point! A higher resolution is definitely appealing. I just found an MSI motherboard for the B850 chipset that’s similar, but it’s only 2000 yen more than the X870. Would you say that’s worth it?
