Is My CPU Cooler Too Weak for My 5700x?

I just built my first PC and I'm using a Ryzen 5 5700x processor. I realized that the cooler I bought is only rated for 35 watts, but the 5700x requires 65 watts. What should I expect if I try gaming with this setup? Will it overheat or perform poorly?

What cooler are you using? The 5700x is pretty easy to cool, so there might be a better option out there for you.

Honestly, it's tough to find a cooler that weak. You'd be better off spending just a bit more to get a proper cooler. I suggest looking at some budget options to handle your CPU's heat better.

You're definitely going to see high temps with that cooler. If you lower the CPU's voltage, you might get cooler temps temporarily while you search for a better cooling solution. I recommend liquid cooling since your CPU tends to heat up quickly under load. A solid air cooler rated for 65w+ would work well too!

Have you installed the cooler yet? If so, just give it a shot. The worst that can happen is the CPU throttles down if it gets too hot. If not, consider grabbing a good single tower air cooler.
