I'm finally ready to step away from pre-built PCs and try my hand at building my own custom rig! I don't have any experience or deep knowledge about PC parts, but a friend will help me through the process as long as I get the right components and double-check their compatibility.
Here's what I'm thinking for my build, inspired by Mr. Matt Lee's North Noir setup, all within my budget:
- **Processor:** AMD Ryzen 9 9950X3D
- **Storage:** Team T-Force Z44A7 NVMe PCIe Gen4 4TB SSD
- **Case:** Fractal Design North XL Case Momentum Edition
- **Cooler:** ASUS ProArt LC 420 AIO Liquid CPU Cooler
- **Power Supply:** Corsair iCUE Link HX1500i Shift Cybenetics Platinum 1500W
- **Motherboard:** ASUS ROG Strix X870E-H Gaming WiFi 7
- **GPU Kit:** HAVN Universal Vertical GPU Kit in Black
- **Graphics Card:** ASUS GeForce RTX 5080 TUF Gaming OC 16GB GDDR7
- **RAM:** Corsair Vengeance 64GB (2x32GB) 6000MHz CL30 DDR5
I plan to mostly game on this setup with a dual 1440p OLED monitor, plus do some light streaming and video editing. I also want to upgrade the GPU down the line when prices go down or the newer models come out.
Since I'm quite new to this, I'd love any advice or tips on making this build better!

A few things to ponder:
- Where are you buying the parts from? And what's your budget exactly?
- The AIO cooler might be overkill; it fits better in the front of the North XL case, and a less expensive Arctic model would likely cool just as well.
- ASUS components are cool but can be quite expensive just because of the brand—I’d consider alternatives like Zotac for the GPU if you're looking to save some cash.
You might consider swapping the X870E motherboard for a standard X870 model; it cuts costs without sacrificing performance—around $150-$180 saved. Also, the AIO cooler you're looking at is pretty pricey for no added benefit; a solid cooler under $100 would do the job. Finally, 1500W for a power supply is way over what you really need, even with potential overclocking. A good 1000W should be plenty!
Thanks for the advice and recommendations!

Purchasing from Australia and my max budget is 10k AUD. I'm also hoping to get into AI on the side for fun! Should I stay clear of ASUS for the GPU?
