Hey everyone! I recently got hit with a surprisingly high electricity bill, and I'm trying to figure out where all this extra usage is coming from. It looks like my PC alone seems responsible, but I'm having a hard time believing it could actually be using 3.489 kWh over the past 8 months. Here's my setup:
- MSI PRO B650-S
- AMD Ryzen 5 7500F
- 32GB RAM DDR5
- NVIDIA RTX 4070 SUPER 12GB
- 1TB SSD (x2)
- MSI MAG A750GL 750W PSU
I game quite a bit on this rig, with games ranging from low-end to high-performance titles, but I'm not into rendering or anything super intensive. The PC tends to heat up the room pretty significantly, but I'm skeptical about these power numbers. Could it really be that high, or is something possibly wrong? Any insights would be appreciated! Thanks in advance!

3.489 kWh seems way off. Are you sure you're reading that correctly? If it's actually 3,489 kWh, that’s a whole different story! Some regions use different formats for numbers, so double-check that. Assuming it's around 400 watts max during heavy use, you would need to do some serious math to see how many hours you game weekly.
You might want to check your power usage with a meter like a Kill-A-Watt. It’ll give you a real reading of how much your PC is actually pulling from the wall.
If your PC is running 24/7, then yeah, it could be possible, but otherwise, it's hard to believe you’d hit that much in just 8 months.
Consider undervolting your GPU! I have mine set to about .900 mV, and it drops my consumption significantly, around 110W to 150W—which adds up over time.
Let’s say your PC averages 350W and you game about four hours daily. That totals roughly 1.4 kWh per day. You'd need over 2000 days to hit that 3,500 kWh figure. Honestly, I suspect something like a faulty fridge or HVAC could be to blame instead.
