Is my grandma’s landline acting strange, or is something else going on?

I've been having some strange experiences with my grandma's landline. A few months back, her landline called my workplace, and the bartender mentioned that they received a call from her number, but she didn't actually make it. My grandma doesn't even know the number of the bar, so it was odd. Recently, my mom got a call from the landline while my grandma was on her cellphone conversing about making an appointment. This has left me uneasy because it's not just that the landline seems to be making calls on its own, but it may also be intercepting conversations. Can someone help me figure out what's happening?

Have you looked into the property's phone setup? Senior accessibility features might be causing this, or if you guys are using VOIP, sometimes it can have issues with calls being rerouted. I’d recommend checking any outgoing call logs to see if there’s a pattern or even if the calls were placed from the landline.

Yeah, we have separate AT&T services for everything. It’s all cable and the landline’s through VOIP. I was in the room during the latest incident and heard everything clearly!

Your grandma's number might have been spoofed. This happens when someone uses her caller ID to make it seem like they are calling from her number. If you notice strange calls, that's a red flag. It’s best to look at her outgoing call logs to check what has been dialed recently.

If it's actually not your grandma making these calls, definitely check for caller ID spoofing. Spammers do this stuff all the time! A common occurrence is getting calls from numbers that belong to legitimate businesses but are just rerouted. It’s worth contacting your phone provider if it happens again for more clarity on what's going on.

The most straightforward explanation could be that your grandma, or another person in the house, is unknowingly hitting the dial button. It’s easy to accidentally call a number if someone is changing settings or if there's a glitch. Check if there’s any other device that might be tied to her landline, like a hearing aid or a phone feature that links to other devices.

I was just in my room studying when that happened again. It's frightening to think another person could be using the line! I hope it’s not a prank or something worse.

It’s likely nothing sinister. Landlines aren't super easy to hack remotely. You might just be dealing with a technical glitch or even a simple mix-up. Try resetting the phone and checking call history for any mishaps. You could also talk to her about checking if someone else has been using the line without her knowing.
