Is my hard drive failing?

I've been having some issues with my computer lately, and I'm worried my hard drive might be breaking down. Normally, everything works perfectly and I don't face many problems. Recently, though, whenever I launch my computer or even open a single application, it seems to use at least 35% of my hard drive. When I play a game like F1 24, the usage spikes to anywhere between 50% and even up to 100%. This is really unusual for me. I've tried troubleshooting it myself, including doing a full reset thinking it might be a virus, but it hasn't made any difference. I could really use some advice on what to do next!

You might want to check if your hard drive has any manufacturer testing software. Your hard drive should show up in Disk Management, and from there, you can access its properties to find out the manufacturer and type. Running the testing app can give you some insights on its current status. Good luck with that!

Okay, I'll try that and report back!

I think you might be confusing hard drive usage with CPU usage. When a game runs, it pulls data from your storage but doesn't significantly increase storage usage after it's closed. Are you sure you're looking at the right metric? Also, when I just have Chrome and Task Manager open, my disk is using about 50% as well, so that might be normal for your setup.

So, when checking the Task Manager, HDD refers to my hard drive, right? Unless I'm totally mixed up?

Yeah, HDD shows your hard drive usage. It can spike during heavy tasks!
