Is My Hard Drive in Trouble? Caution on CrystalDiskInfo

I've been having some issues with one of my HDDs, so I checked it with CrystalDiskInfo. It's showing a warning for the current pending sector count at 26 sectors. The drive is around 8 years old, mainly used for backup and storing downloaded files. How serious is this situation? Should I look for a replacement right away, or do I have some time? The drive is nearly full, and while I do have some files on Google Drive, I'm worried about privacy. What should my next steps be?

I’d back up anything important right away; that’s a clear warning sign! If you can swing it, consider replacing any similar drives as well, just in case.

Haha, I appreciate the urgency! I’m already backing things up with encryption. My other 1TB HDD is doing fine, so that’s a relief.

Pending sectors are a sign of bad sectors that the drive is trying to fix, but the real concern is the uncorrectable sector count. Since you only have 27 pending sectors and over 17,000 hours on it, you're not in immediate danger. Running a chkdsk command might help: `chkdsk /f e:` to try and repair those bad sectors. Backup your important files just in case, though!

Thanks for the tip! I’ll definitely back up my important stuff first before running the check. I had it as an external drive for a while; maybe that caused some early wear.

Think about it: if the drive failed tomorrow, how would you feel? If finding a replacement is quick for you, then why wait? I get it, money’s tight, but being safe is key!

Yeah, I’d rather take my chances on a sale than lose everything. Thanks for the reality check!

It’s an older drive but has proven to be reliable. Sometimes, it might stabilize for a while, but nothing is guaranteed. Keeping backups is crucial.

Honestly, it’s not as scary as it sounds. Just keep an eye on those numbers and see if they change, but as of now, it seems okay.
