Is my laptop slowing down due to a virus or something else?

I've been having some issues with my laptop lately. It randomly overheats during the day, even when I'm not running any heavy programs, which causes it to lag and crash. I try to use the task manager, but that often crashes too. After these episodes, it usually gets back to normal, but sometimes it blackscreens and shuts down due to overheating. Additionally, my wifi card seems to be acting up, as I'm experiencing significant lag when trying to play online games. Could this be a virus, or is something else going on?

It sounds like a heating issue for sure. Besides cleaning the fans, try monitoring your CPU temperature with a program to see how hot it's getting during those laggy moments. If it's running hot, you might want to consider getting a cooling pad or at least making sure it's on a flat surface for airflow. Also, your wifi issues might just be a separate problem, but it could also stem from overheating affecting performance overall.

First off, overheating can often be due to dust build-up or failing hardware, rather than a virus. Start by checking if your fans are working properly—if they're not spinning, that's a big problem. Cleaning out the fans can really help too, so give that a shot if you haven't already. If your OS crashes and everything seems fine in task manager, it might even be an issue with the thermal paste, which helps your CPU stay cool. Might be time to look into that once you get the green light from your parents.
