Is My Laptop’s RAM Malfunctioning?

I just got a new laptop for Christmas, and I'm starting to suspect there might be an issue with the RAM. When I check Task Manager, it shows that 80% to 99% of my RAM is being used, even though I only have Minecraft, one tab in Opera, Spotify, and a few smaller applications running. I have 16GB of RAM, and Minecraft along with Opera should only be consuming around 8,000 to 9,000 MB. However, Task Manager reports that about 14,000 MB is being used, which doesn't make sense. I'm worried there's a real problem since I can't afford to upgrade my RAM given the current shortage. I've linked a previous post for more context on my situation and other usage stats, and I really don't think it's just about debloating Windows or switching browsers like some are suggesting.

It might be that your OS is using lots of RAM, which is pretty normal. Windows usually tries to utilize all available memory but should free it when other applications need it. Are you actually experiencing performance issues?

Absolutely! When I have a game open, my whole system slows down drastically. Typing takes forever, and just switching between apps makes everything lag. I've limited Minecraft to 8GB, so I should have some RAM left for other tasks, but it's showing 90% full.

Have you checked if any background processes are using a ton of memory? Sometimes things like updates or certain apps can go rogue. Go through your Task Manager and see if anything unusual is taking up resources.

I've looked, but I didn't notice anything unusual. Most of the high usage is from the apps I'm actively using, but it seems like the OS is holding onto RAM that it shouldn't need.
