Is My Motherboard Compatible for a GPU Upgrade?

I have an ASUS Prime X570-Pro motherboard paired with a Ryzen 9 3000 series 12-core CPU. I've been playing a graphically intensive game, Star Citizen, but recently my GPU has started bottlenecking and turning off my monitors. I'm considering upgrading to an RTX 5070 instead of my current Radeon RX 5700 XT. Will my motherboard be an issue, or should I think about building an entirely new system?

Yeah, it looks like your current power supply might be a little outdated for a major upgrade like that. If your PSU is around 8 years old, it might struggle with the RTX 5070. You could end up needing a new PSU, so maybe factor that into your plans.

It sounds like your GPU bottlenecking isn't what's causing your monitors to turn off; there might be something else going on with your system. As a Star Citizen player myself, I can say that while your Ryzen CPU is powerful, it might struggle with an RTX 5070 since the game demands a fast multicore CPU and at least 32GB of RAM. Just keep that in mind before making the upgrade.

Just a heads up, there actually isn't a Radeon RX 5000 XT - did you mean the 5700 XT? Also, what’s the wattage of your PSU? If it’s a decent 650 watts, you should be fine with the RTX 5070. But, be cautious with older PSUs. A 650W PSU is usually the minimum for high-performance cards and should handle about 300 watts on load. Just make sure your PSU is in good shape!
