I'm ready to upgrade my PC and I have my new parts listed. However, the tech at the store mentioned that my motherboard might not be 'good enough' for my high-performance setup, which made me unsure. Here's what I'm working with:
- **CPU**: AMD Ryzen 9 9900X
- **GPU**: RTX 5070 Ti
- **RAM**: 64GB DDR5
- **Storage**: 2× Samsung 2TB SSDs
- **PSU**: 1000W
- **Motherboard**: Gigabyte B650 GAMING X AX V2 (rev. 1.x) ATX
The technician said I could run my system, but it wouldn't achieve its full potential. I'm into heavy gaming and also do lots of 4K video editing. He recommended upgrading to a B670 or B870 motherboard. I'm looking for a second opinion here. Will this motherboard noticeably limit my performance? Should I invest in a better motherboard?

While the B650 board doesn't have PCIe 5.0 support, with your current GPU, you might lose just about 1-2% in performance, which is pretty negligible. So, it sounds like your setup is fine for the RTX 5070 Ti!
Nah, the 9900X is still a beast! You're good.
Honestly, it sounds like the technician might just be trying to upsell you. Your board is totally suitable for what you're looking to do.
I've got a similar setup, except I've got a 7900XTX and 32GB of RAM. I've had no performance issues. You're set!
Nice! I'm thinking of upgrading to 32GB as well. What do you think?
You’re okay! Just make sure the motherboard's BIOS is updated for the 9000 series CPU compatibility. Otherwise, you won't have any issues.
Your motherboard should work just fine. There's a video from Hardware Unboxed that talks about how a B650 can handle CPUs like yours without issues—just jump to the 20:46 mark for the insight. The B670 and B870 boards aren't even real. Looks like it's time to find a new technician who knows their stuff!

What about the CPU? Do you think that might hold me back?
