I accidentally restarted my PC while a Windows update was running, and now there's no display, just a red light on my motherboard. I took it to a store, and they told me the motherboard is the issue. To make things worse, my warranty on the previous motherboard expired recently. We ended up buying a new one since I needed my PC for work. Am I being scammed here?

I'd think about returning that new motherboard. It's suspicious that they just happened to have one in stock when you brought yours in.
Funny enough, the new one costs a bit more than what I paid a couple of years ago. I can't really go back now because I'm stuck in traffic and need my PC for work.
