I have an MSI GX627 laptop that's making a buzzing noise from the hard drive when I boot it up. It sounds like a medium buzz followed by a lower-pitched buzz, kind of like a 'nuhuh' sound. Since there's nothing important on it, I'm mostly just looking to tinker with it and set it up as a simple machine to monitor my dog while he's at daycare. Strangely, the battery seems fine and holds a charge. I noticed a compartment at the back that has symbols looking like a cylinder, which I think might be for accessing the hard drive. There's also another compartment that has a symbol that looks like a hard drive, but I'm guessing that's for the motherboard. Additionally, the time and date won't stay set, which might be a clue.

First thing you should do is check the health of your drive using Crystal Disk. It'll help confirm if it’s really failing. And yeah, it sounds like you might need to swap it out. Get a service manual from MSI if you can, just to be sure about how to replace the drive. The model you mentioned is a bit obscure, so look for a more specific name or the serial number sticker on it. Typically, if it’s older, you’ll be dealing with a 2.5" drive, but make sure to verify that before buying a new one!
I ran the SMART test, and it shows a lot of pre-fail warnings. It's not completely dead yet, so I guess I need to find a replacement soon.
Thanks for the tips! I tried searching for a service guide, but it seems like my model isn't even on their site anymore, just the specs.
