Is My New Video Card Malfunctioning?

I'm hoping for some confirmation here. My daughter recently upgraded her video card from a 4GB to an 8GB to meet the requirements for her new game. I installed the card on Monday, but we faced some power and internet outages. Everything seemed fine until I set it up yesterday, but one of her monitors started acting strange—it would intermittently stop working. I noticed that when I booted it up, one monitor was black, even though I could see the mouse pointer moving. The second monitor was fine, so I wondered if the first monitor was the issue. I tested it on an old PC, and it worked perfectly. Then I connected both monitors to her PC, and now the other monitor stopped working! It seems like a faulty video card to me since both monitors worked on the other PC and everything's securely connected. I should also mention that when I first installed the card, it worked without issues. Any thoughts? Am I right in thinking it's likely a defective card?

It could be a few different things. If you switched from NVIDIA to AMD or vice versa, make sure to use DDU to clean out old drivers, as remnants can cause issues. If you didn't switch brands, simply uninstalling and reinstalling the graphics drivers might fix the problem. Definitely worth a shot!

I'll try that in the morning. Thanks for the advice!

As someone who runs a small PC repair shop, I suggest double-checking whether you used Display Driver Uninstaller when you installed the new card. If you switched brands, that could be a major factor. Also, is it the same type, like NVIDIA or AMD?

I did uninstall the old driver before switching cards. Both monitors worked fine when I first installed the new one, but after moving the cables, they started having issues. It's really random, and I can't make sense of why this is happening, which is why I'm leaning towards a bad card.

Is your PC connected to a surge protector? Sometimes power surges can affect graphics cards.

Yes, it is. I also tested the monitors on the other PC while they were plugged into a surge protector.
