I recently took out my Ryzen 7 7700X CPU, which was working fine, and placed it in a box for possible resale. Now that I've pulled it out again, I noticed that some of the pads look a bit off. I'm curious if it's safe to plug it back in and test it, or if it might cause damage to my RAM or other components. Thanks for your help!

That one pad does indeed look concerning. If it worked fine before you put it away, maybe it’s worth testing, but be cautious! I wouldn’t want to risk frying your RAM or anything else. If it were me, I'd probably try to clean it up a bit more before testing.
I had a similar issue with my CPU. There was a bit of residue from liquid metal that I couldn't get off, but surprisingly, it still worked perfectly fine. If it's just some gunk, I'd say give it a shot! Just keep an eye on everything once you power it back on.
You could try cleaning it with isopropyl alcohol (IPA), but honestly, if it’s not coming off easily, it might not make much difference. Just take care and be ready for any potential issues when you plug it back in.
