Is My UPS Good Enough for My Upgraded PC?

I'm in the process of upgrading my PC from a 3060/5600x setup to a 5700x3d with a yet-to-be-decided GPU. Alongside this upgrade, I'm getting a 1000W PSU. My main concern is whether my current UPS, rated for 1000VA/600W, will be sufficient. I've looked at various PSU calculators, and it seems the combined power consumption for the 5700x3d and something like a 9070xt could reach around 560-600W. Will my UPS handle this, or should I consider getting a new one?

For your build, you really only need about a 750W or 850W PSU, so the 1000W might be overkill unless you plan to add more components later.

With your configuration, I’d recommend upgrading. It'll give you headroom for sudden power spikes and allow the PSU to operate more effectively. I upgraded to a Corsair RM1000x, and even though it’s a bit more than I need, it gives me peace of mind with the new Nvidia cables. Just make sure you have a good quality PSU because it really matters!

It depends on what else is connected. If your setup looks like a holiday display with tons of SSDs and extra peripherals, you should definitely consider getting a stronger UPS. Plus, remember that older PSUs can also lose efficiency over time.

UPS ratings can be tricky. If that 600W limit means it shuts down when reached, you might be cutting it close with GPU power spikes, especially since you might have other devices plugged in too.
