Is My Zentyal Experience Useful for Working with Windows Server?

Hey everyone! I'm TopoVago, and I just landed a job interview at a fantastic company this Tuesday. I could really use your help! I've been in IT Support for about 3 years at a pretty basic company, and now I need to get up to speed on some technologies I haven't worked with much: Active Directory administration, SCCM, and WSUS.

Here's the catch: while I've used Active Directory through Zentyal, I haven't done it in Windows Server. I've also set up Windows Server 2016 for Remote Desktop Services, so I have some familiarity with server environments and AD concepts.

My specific questions are:
1. How much of my Zentyal experience can I leverage when working with Windows Server Active Directory?
2. Can anyone recommend resources or insights to help me learn about SCCM and WSUS quickly?
3. Are there any courses you suggest, even basic ones, so I can at least have some surface-level understanding for the interview?

To prepare, I'm taking a Udemy course focused on AD and WSUS, and I plan to create a lab to replicate my company's AD structure in Windows Server for hands-on experience.

It sounds like you’re in a bit of a crunch! Your experience with Zentyal should give you a good foundational understanding for Active Directory, but just be prepared for some differences in tools and interfaces in Windows Server.

For SCCM and WSUS, it really depends on what you'll be doing. Start with Microsoft's docs; they have great tutorials that can provide you a decent overview. If you have time, focus on key features you think might be relevant for the job, like software deployment in SCCM or updates management in WSUS.

I agree! Microsoft's documentation is a goldmine. Also consider YouTube; there's tons of quick tutorials out there. Just make sure you understand the basics well, especially for SCCM—it’s pretty vast!

Honestly, cramming those technologies right before your interview is ambitious. I’d suggest focusing specifically on the areas they might ask about during the interview. For SCCM, get a grip on how it’s used for deployment and updates, as that might be crucial for your job in a factory setting.

And for courses, check out LinkedIn Learning or Pluralsight; they often have beginner courses that could help you feel more prepared. Good luck!

Yeah, I'd focus on just a few aspects, especially since time is tight. Be honest about your learning curve if they ask, and they might appreciate your effort!
