Is Now a Bad Time to Buy a GPU?

I'm in the process of upgrading my system from an Intel 10700K to a 9800X3D and eventually want to replace my 3070 Ti with a newer 50+ series GPU to support my transition from a 2K to a 4K monitor. However, I'm feeling uncertain about the timing of this purchase. With the possibility of tariff increases and depreciation affecting resale values, I'm worried that investing in a 5070 Ti might not be wise. What do you all think?

Honestly, it's probably not the best time to buy a GPU right now. That said, I just went ahead and bought one anyway. YOLO, right?

I’d personally wait for the 5080 model with 24GB. It could be worth it in the long run.

Right now, it's definitely not a great time to buy. The 3070 Ti is still performing well, so I'd suggest you hold off until the market stabilizes further.

It really comes down to deciding how much you're willing to spend and keeping an eye on stock and price-tracking sites. I was able to snag a 5070 Ti at MSRP after patiently tracking it for weeks. It’s annoying to see alerts for prices that aren't right, but if you stay disciplined, you’ll eventually find a good deal.

If you're looking for 4K performance, I’d actually recommend going for the 9700X paired with the 5080 instead. The performance gap between the 9800X3D and the 9700X3D is really minor, but the jump from the 5070 Ti to the 5080 is much more significant at 4K resolutions.

That’s true, but for VR applications, the 9800X3D performs exceptionally well. Just something to consider if VR is in your plans.

Totally agree! I run a 4K 144Hz monitor and the 5080 has been a game-changer for maxing out graphics while keeping my framerate around 144 FPS.

Focusing too much on future resale value when buying a GPU just doesn’t make sense to me. If you need an upgrade for better FPS or resolution, get what you need. Otherwise, maybe hold off for now.
