Is Now a Good Time to Buy a GPU?

I recently lost my 1660 Super, and I need a new graphics card. I'm considering either an RTX 3050 or an RX 6600, but I'm out of the loop on current GPU prices. Should I go ahead and make a purchase now or hold off for a few weeks? My budget is around 350 to 380 Canadian dollars. I have a Ryzen 5 3600 and a motherboard that only supports PCIe Gen 3. I found an RTX 3050 for $320 and an RX 6600 XT for $350. Any advice or suggestions?

The closest brand new option in your budget could be the RTX 5050, priced around $380 CAD. You'll get better performance on older games but may face challenges with newer titles. A warranty on a new card is a big plus, plus you might find a used card that could be a better deal if you can test it beforehand.

Without knowing your budget specifics, it's tough to provide solid advice. But if your budget is around 350 CAD, you could explore options ensuring compatibility with your system.

If you're in a bigger city and can be patient, you might score a used RTX 3080 for about $375 CAD. If you're not keen on waiting, I often see 3070s priced around $350, which are definitely better options than the 3050 or RX 6600.

But buying older cards comes with risks. You don't want to end up spending more fixing them later! In my area, 3080s are priced higher, so it's definitely a mixed bag.

I felt the same way about buying a GPU. Time is precious, and prices might just keep climbing! If anything, it might be worth buying now rather than waiting and risking price hikes.

You can actually find 3080s for under $400 CAD, which would be a significant upgrade. The 3050 doesn't really offer much of a boost compared to what you had previously.

Honestly, GPU prices are at some of the highest points we've seen in five years, and they don't seem to be dropping anytime soon. I’d recommend against the 3050 unless you can snag it for next to nothing, and you'd need to consider your gaming needs too.

I'm mainly doing 1080p gaming with some story-driven games and Valorant. My CPU is a Ryzen 5 3600.
