I recently picked up a secondhand PC for $300, and it has a 1080 Ti dual fan GPU, a 5TB HDD, and an AMD 2600 processor (but no Windows). I'm planning to replace the PSU since it didn't come with a power cable, and I'm curious if this GPU is still worth it for gaming in 2025. It also has 8 fans total (2 on the GPU) and a B450GT3 motherboard with 25GB of RAM.

Why do you want to replace the PSU? The setup you've got should run most current games at 1080p, some even at high or ultra settings. Just ensure to get an SSD; HDDs can struggle with modern titles. Those 5TB are perfect for storing your media though!
It really depends on what games you're into. The 1080 Ti can handle most titles at 1080p just fine, especially if you avoid the heavy hitters that require ray tracing. For $300, it’s a decent setup, but keep your expectations in check!
It’ll run pretty much everything except for maybe 5 games that need ray tracing. So not too bad!
The 1080 Ti is considered legendary, but it's definitely showing its age. It's a solid card for older games or less demanding titles, but don’t expect to run the latest offerings without some compromises.
Yeah, I'm only looking to play lighter games like Stardew Valley for now. I'm thinking about upgrading the motherboard and CPU next month when I have a bigger budget.
Just a heads up, a lot of new games are pushing ray tracing requirements more, which the 1080 Ti can't handle well. If you're focusing on games from 2010 to early 2020s, you're mostly in the clear, but keep an eye on future titles.
It all comes down to how demanding your gaming needs are. My wife is happily playing on a 1070 Ti, and she manages games like Baldur's Gate 3 without any issues. If you’re cool playing at 1080p, you should be fine!
Thanks for the perspective! That gives me a lot to think about.
Honestly, for $300, I wouldn't get a 1080 Ti setup. You could snag an RX 7600 for that price, which would offer better performance overall.
If you read the original post, it's a whole PC for $300 including the GPU!
My friend said it’s best to get a new PSU. I just bought a secondhand one and it blew up on me. I’ll definitely look into getting an M.2 SSD as well.
