Is the 5070 a Good Upgrade from a 7800 XT?

Hey everyone! I'm currently using a 5700x3d processor and a 7800 XT graphics card for gaming at 1440p in Canada. I've been considering upgrading to the 5070, but I'm curious about the price-to-performance ratio. Do you think it's worth it? I've heard mixed opinions about its 12GB of VRAM being potentially insufficient, especially with ray tracing. I'd love to hear your thoughts and opinions on this!

I don’t think the 5070 is worth the upgrade from a 7800 XT. The performance improvement is only about 10-15% at best, and that’s only when you aren’t running out of VRAM. You might find better value in waiting for a 9070 XT or 5070 Ti, which would give you a more noticeable boost in performance.

Exactly! The 7800 XT still handles 1440p really well, so unless you're looking for significant upgrades, just stick with what you've got for now.

Honestly, I’d say skip the 5070 altogether. For the same price, you can look into the 9070 or even the next generation of AMD cards that are expected to release soon. You're probably better off saving up for something that will last longer.

Absolutely! The current lineup still offers great value, and waiting could save you money in the long run.

If ray tracing is a big deal for you, then maybe consider the 5070 Ti, otherwise the 5070 really isn't that much faster than the 7800 XT. Also, some upcoming Nvidia cards next year might have more VRAM, so it could be worth the wait.

Yeah, and with the 12GB of VRAM on the 5070, you might struggle at higher settings, especially with demanding games.

I’d recommend sticking with the 7800 XT for now. It’s still capable of running games at 1440p very well. Spending on the 5070 won’t give you much of an upgrade, if any. It might be a good idea to wait and see how the prices of the next-gen cards pan out.
