Is the 5080 Worth the Extra Cost Over the 5070 Ti for 1440p Gaming?

I'm in the process of building my new PC and can't decide between the 5070 Ti and the 5080. My goal is to play at 1440p, but I'm not sure if spending an additional $500 to $600 on the 5080 is actually worth it. Can anyone share their insights on the performance differences and which card would be the better investment?

If you're really looking into overclocking, you can get the 5070 Ti to perform nearly on par with the 5080 under ideal conditions. For the price difference, I think the 5070 Ti is the smarter choice unless you specifically need that extra power for 4K.

For 1440p, I'd say the 5070 Ti is more than sufficient. The 5080 really shines at 4k, and even there, the price-to-performance ratio isn't great. Unless you're planning on doing some serious path tracing or gaming at 4k, I’d recommend getting the 5070 Ti instead.

Honestly, I've seen only about a 15% performance boost with the 5080 compared to the 5070 Ti. When you break it down, that extra performance is costing you like $500, which doesn’t seem worth it, especially when you can overclock the 5070 Ti for decent results.

For 1440p gaming, I would suggest sticking with the 5070 Ti. It's solid for that setup and really worth the money you save. Overall, unless you're very serious about gaming at 4k, I wouldn’t justify the extra cost of the 5080.

I've tried both cards, and for 1440p, the 5070 Ti holds its own pretty well. I regret going for the 5080; it just wasn't the right call for 1440p gaming. If I were in your shoes, I'd probably get the 5070 Ti or even consider a 9070 XT since it's more budget-friendly for that resolution.
