I'm looking at building my first gaming PC and I'm trying to decide between the 5800XT for $208 and the 12600KF for $170. Which one offers better gaming performance? Is the higher price for the 5800XT justified when it comes to pure gaming?

These prices don’t give the full picture since a complete build involves motherboard and RAM costs too. What do you mean by needing to consider the full platform?
If you go with the 12600KF now, you can upgrade to powerful CPUs later, like the 14900K/KF. But if you choose the 5800XT, upgrading to higher-end Ryzen CPUs can be tricky since they’re tough to find these days.
Good to know, thanks!
It depends on your whole setup. Sure, the 5800XT is great for gaming, but a CPU alone won't make your PC shine. Are you starting fresh or do you have some components already?
I'm building a new PC from scratch.
Remember, one’s a GPU and the other’s a CPU, so they serve different purposes. You usually need both for a good gaming experience. Just note that the 'F' in 12600KF means it doesn’t have integrated graphics, so definitely grab a dedicated GPU for decent performance.
Got it, I realized my mistake; the 5800XT is a GPU, not a CPU.
For gaming, if you plan on using DDR4, the 5800XT might be better. However, for better long-term upgrades with DDR5, the 12600KF is a solid choice.
Thanks for that insight!

Could you explain what you mean by full platform?
