I'm considering upgrading from my current GPU, the RTX 4060 with 6GB VRAM, to the AMD 7800 XT. My setup includes a Ryzen 5700X processor and 32GB of DDR4 RAM running at 3200MHz. Would the 7800 XT be a good choice for 1440p gaming, or should I look at other options that might offer better performance?

I think you might want to check out the 9060 XT with 16GB VRAM instead. While it’s slightly less powerful than the 7800 XT in some benchmarks, it offers better frame generation and might have longer support. Plus, it’s generally cheaper, so you’ll be getting more bang for your buck. Of course, if you’re willing to spend more, consider going for something stronger like the RTX 5070 or RX 9070 for similar VRAM. Better performance overall!
What’s your budget looking like? The 7800 XT typically goes for around $400-420, but you could also grab a 3080 Ti for roughly the same price. Personally, I’d lean towards the 3080 Ti over the 7800 XT if the price is the same.
My budget is around £450, but I'm not sure how that translates into dollars. I'll have to check!
I'm also a fan of the 9060 XT 16GB! It’s within budget and performs really well. I usually see over 100 FPS in most games, and I get around 70 FPS in Cyberpunk with high settings and ray tracing. It’s impressive for a last-gen card, plus it handles path tracing at 62 FPS—can’t beat that!

That does sound like a solid option! I'll definitely look into the RX 9070; seems to be a great value.
