Is the 7800x3d a good choice for gaming at 1440p?

I'm thinking about upgrading my CPU from the 1600AF to the 7800x3d. I recently got a new GPU (RX 9070) and I play games mostly at 1440p and 180Hz. I'm worried about whether this upgrade would actually make a difference since my games, like Elden Ring and Cyberpunk 2077, mostly rely on the GPU. Is upgrading to the 7800x3d overkill for my setup? There's a temporary discount on it, so I'm wondering if it's a good deal or if I should hold off.

Yes! Especially at lower resolutions, upgrading makes a lot of sense. At 4K, it might seem overkill, but for 1440p, you'll definitely appreciate the extra power.

Nope, not overkill at all! A strong CPU is actually more important at lower resolutions. If you want to hit high frame rates in games like Cyberpunk, the 7800x3d will definitely help you achieve that. If you're planning to run everything on low to hit high FPS, then it's a solid choice!

The jump from an R5 1600 to a 7800x3d is massive! It's definitely worth it if you want smoother gameplay in CPU-heavy spots. I've noticed my older CPUs struggle a lot in busy scene scenarios.

Absolutely, going for a better CPU like the 7800x3d is worth it, especially at lower resolutions like 1440p. Since games like Cyberpunk and Elden Ring can be pretty CPU-heavy, you'll definitely see benefits in frame rates with the right CPU.

It really depends on whether you're using AM5, which it sounds like you are. If you have the cash, it's one of the best CPUs out there. Just keep in mind, you'll need a new motherboard for it since the 1600AF uses AM4.

Yeah, and if you're near a Microcenter, they have a nice bundle deal for around $650 that includes the 7800x3d.
