Is the 9800X3D or 9900X Better for My Gaming and 3D Modeling Needs?

I'm about to invest in a new PC next week and I need your input on which CPU to choose. The 9800X3D is priced at $550 here, while the 9900X is $430. I split my time about 50% gaming at 1440p with a 240Hz monitor, 35% watching YouTube, and 15% doing some 3D modeling in Fusion 360 and Blender. I'm planning to pair whichever CPU I choose with a 5070 Ti graphics card. I mainly play games like Valorant, MW III, Forza Motorsport, Uncharted 4, and Horizon Forbidden West. I've heard that the 3D V-Cache on the 9800X3D could offer a significant boost in performance in simulator games, but I'm wondering if that really makes a difference at my resolution. I also do some 3D modeling as a hobby, but nothing too intensive at this point, so I'm curious which CPU would suit my needs better without going overly future-proof. What do you think?

I second the 9800X3D! It’s a solid option for gaming, and the added cache is really handy. In your case, it sounds like the benefits outweigh the slightly lower render times you’d get from the 9900X. Plus, if you ever ramp up your modeling projects, it's better to have that extra power.

Definitely consider the 9800X3D. You mentioned that rendering is mostly GPU-based, but for gaming, the 3D V-Cache is a sweet boost at 1440p. Even if your 3D modeling is light right now, the 9800X3D gives you some room to grow if your hobby turns into something bigger.

I'd go with the 9800X3D. Since you're primarily gaming, that extra performance really pays off. Plus, most of your activities will benefit more from the additional cores and the 3D V-Cache, especially in those AAA games you mentioned.

I just got the 9800X3D with a 5070Ti and it's been amazing! Running at 5120x1440 (close to 4K) and it's handling everything without breaking a sweat. If gaming is a priority, the 9800X3D is a no-brainer.

If you plan on gaming at all, go with the 9800X3D. But just a heads up—if you mostly game at 4K in the future, your GPU will likely be the bottleneck anyway, so keep that in mind. That said, the 9800X3D should still perform great with everything.
