Is the 9800X3D Suitable for 4K Video Editing?

I'm thinking about getting the 9800X3D CPU since I do both video editing and gaming, but I'm not sure if it's powerful enough for 4K editing. Should I go for the 9900X instead, or will the 9800X3D work just fine? I'm also planning to pair it with a 5070 Ti or 5080 in the next year.

While the 9800X3D excels in gaming, it might not be the best option for video editing. The Intel Core Ultra 7 could be a better fit since it's optimized for that purpose.

I'm hesitant to go Intel since there's no upgrade path, but AM5 gives me options for the future.

The 9800X3D is great for gaming, but if video editing is your top priority, the 9900X might be a better choice since it has a bit more power for editing tasks. It's really about what matters more to you!

I'm kind of stuck here too since I rely on my PC for income and can't decide which is better!

Instead of waiting, consider getting a 9600X with a 5060 Ti. The AM5 platform does make future upgrades easier. Plus, the generational jump in GPU performance is significant these days!

5000 series GPUs? Not a chance, those aren't cutting it for me!

If you’re not fixed on AMD, Intel's processors are quite competitive for video editing tasks, especially with their proprietary sync technology.

How does it perform for gaming though? And what's the upgrade path like for Intel compared to AMD?

You'll be okay with the 9800X3D, especially if you're using an NVIDIA GPU since it supports hardware acceleration, which can really help with video editing and rendering.

CineFan88 -

Exactly! Most modern video editing software lets you leverage the GPU for rendering, and sometimes even for timeline edits.

RenderMaster99 -

For sure, that GPU support makes a big difference during editing and rendering!
