Is the 9800X3D Worth the Extra Cost Compared to the 7800X3D?

I've been using a 5700X3D but it's been having some weird issues. I bought it used, and it occasionally freezes, even though all my drivers and BIOS are updated and I've tried fresh installs of Windows. I'm getting frustrated and ready to upgrade. Right now, I have a 3090 GPU and my main game is Escape from Tarkov. Since I'm in Canada, I've spotted some good deals for Boxing Week. I know DDR5 RAM is pretty pricey, but I just want to game without the hassle. My main question is whether the 9800X3D is worth paying an extra 150 Canadian dollars compared to the 7800X3D. I do like that the 9800X3D runs cooler than the other model. What do you all think? I might make a decision soon!

Not that it matters for me, but I'm all in for the 9800X3D.

That's kinda what I'm leaning towards too.

If adding 150 CAD isn’t a big deal for you, then go for the 9800X3D. If that money could get you a better GPU instead, consider sticking with the 7800X3D and upgrading that way. The performance gains really depend on what games you're playing and your resolution. For 1440p, I’d probably still lean towards the 7800X3D since the performance is nearly the same in most games. But for 4K, definitely save up for a 9600X instead and spend the difference on a GPU!

Right now, I'm on a 1440p monitor with a 3090, so that's good to know!

How much RAM are you using with Tarkov? It can be a real memory hog, similar to having multiple Chrome tabs open!

I've got 32GB of 3200MHz RAM.

When you're spending on RAM and a motherboard, aim for the biggest upgrade possible. I recently switched from a 5800X3D to a 9800X3D. The upgrade ended up being pretty affordable because I sold my old parts, especially since the price difference right now is minimal in the UK. If you're getting a good price for your old hardware, go for it!

That's my plan! I have someone interested in my old setup, and I'm looking at about 300 to 400 CAD for the full upgrade.

The 9800X3D is about 10-20% faster than the 7800X3D. If you can swing the extra cash, it's a solid investment!
