I'm considering getting the 5070, and the base model seems like the fastest and cheapest option for shipping. However, I've heard some rumors about it potentially melting. Should I go for the base model or get the overclocked (OC) version instead?

The OC versions of the 5070 are slightly better, but they also tend to be pricier. The melting concerns are mostly linked to the RTX 5090, so the 5070 should be fine—just remember to fully connect that 12vhpwr connector to avoid any issues that were common in the past.
While the base 5070 is a decent GPU, keep in mind that 12GB of VRAM might not cut it in the long run.
The base 5070 is unlikely to have any melting issues. Those problems usually occur with cards that draw more than 300 watts. Just make sure your power connector is securely plugged in!
Thank you!
Honestly, 12GB VRAM is limiting for future games. Although it works now, upcoming titles using ray tracing could need more. I regret getting a 3070 Ti that had 8GB—after a year, I was hitting VRAM limits. If possible, go for the 5070 Ti; it’s worth the investment for better longevity. Plus, OC models usually have better cooling, which can help with heat issues.
I 100% agree, but I'm on a budget right now. 12GB would still be an upgrade from my 3060, and when I'm in a better spot I’ll go for something with 16GB.
Honestly, all these versions are pretty much the same. Going for the cheapest 5070 seems like the best way to go.
Good to know!
I feel that, but I’m upgrading from a 3060, so it's a big step up for me!
