Hey everyone! I just picked up a used EVGA X3C 3070 ti and paired it with a brand new Corsair RM750e power supply. When I powered on my PC for the first time, I noticed a clicking sound coming from the PSU. It ramps up fine, but it threw me off a bit. Also, when I shut down the PC, I hear this sharp metal ping from the power supply. There's a rubber thing pressing against the back of the PSU, but everything seems to boot up without issues. Should I be worried about these sounds, or is this normal behavior for a PSU? Thanks for any input!

The click could likely be caused by a bypass relay that manages inrush currents when your PSU charges its bulk capacitors. There might be a thermistor involved as well. I wouldn’t stress too much about the click and ping; it makes sense for a PSU to have those noises during operation. Try running your system with some load and see if the sounds persist! Just to be safe, maybe check in with Corsair about your specific unit if it continues.
Sounds pretty normal to me! My PSU clicks too when I turn on or off my PC. It's just one of those sounds that happens, nothing to stress about. Just keep an ear out and watch for any other weird behavior.
Honestly, any sound other than the normal operation coming from a PSU is pretty concerning. If the clicking and pinging bother you, it might be worth returning it to be on the safe side. Better safe than sorry!
I recently got the same RM850X and noticed that click when powering it on/off. It seems to be the relays doing their thing. As for that metal ping, I haven't encountered that before, so I'd keep an eye on it just in case!
The ping happens only when I turn off the system, while the click happens on startup. I'll run some programs and see if the ping occurs under load before reaching out to Corsair!
