I'm considering upgrading my old PC since my i7-7700K won't get support beyond October when Windows 10 support ends. I know the Core 5 Ultra 245K isn't as strong in gaming compared to options like the i5-14600K, but with AMD prices being high right now in Australia, I'm leaning towards the Ultra 245K. My main concern is that it might offer longer OS support for an extra $80 AUD. I use my PC for casual gaming and everyday tasks, and I'm hoping to keep it around for a while. Any advice?

Before jumping into any decision, rethink your budget and what you really need this PC for. If it’s mostly for casual use, you can probably stick to what fits your price range, regardless of brand. Just make sure you're getting good value, and you should be fine!
Honestly, if you're only casually gaming, the Ultra 245K could suffice. But if you want something more future-proof, consider getting an AM5 board. You'll be set for several generations of AMD chips without needing to swap out anything else. The Ultra platform seems like a one-and-done deal, and who knows what Intel will do next?
If you're leaning towards Intel, just make sure that whatever AMD CPUs you're considering are comparatively priced. The Core 5 Ultra 245K will serve you well as long as you’re okay with its limitations. If Windows has no issues working past the end of life for the OS, you might find the Ultra 245K sufficient for your needs!
Yeah, going AM5 looks like a solid plan. It gives you more flexibility for future upgrades.
