Is the Corsair RM850e PSU Suitable for a Ryzen 7 9850x3d with a 5080?

I recently purchased the Corsair RM850e PSU and I'm now trying to decide between getting the 5080 or the 5070 Ti for my build. I know the PSU can handle the 5070 Ti without issues, but I'm curious if it would also be sufficient for the 5080, especially if I plan to do some overclocking. Any insights on this would be greatly appreciated!

An 850W PSU like the RM850e is definitely sufficient for your setup. I would suggest undervolting the 5080 and power limiting your 9850x3d to help with temperatures and efficiency, though.

I still need to learn how to undervolt and power limit, but that sounds helpful. I've heard good things about the RM850e overall!

Why bother undervolting? I run my 5070 Ti at 115% power limit and it only hits 76°C under benchmark loads.

Yeah, go for it! I'm using an RM850x with a 12900K and a 5070 Ti, and I push the power limit up to 115% too. I've stress-tested it with CPU-Z and Furmark simultaneously, and it held up just fine! 😂

If you overclock the 5080, it can draw up to 450W, but if it's running stock, expect about 350-360W. The Ryzen 7 9850x3d might max out around 170W at worst. So, in a stressful scenario, you could be looking at a total peak of around 620W. That leaves you with 230W headroom for everything else, which should be more than enough! Personally, I think you’ll be totally fine with that PSU.

Thanks for the breakdown! I'm leaning towards the 5080 now, since my motherboard (Asus STRIX ROG X870-A), CPU, RAM (2x16GB 6000MHz DDR5), and PSU are all ready to go.

You might want to grab the X model instead as it has better capacitors.
