Is the extra cost for a Ryzen 5700X3D or 5800X3D worth it for my RTX 3080 setup?

I'm currently running a Ryzen 5600X with an RTX 3080 Fe at 1440p and considering an upgrade. There's a price difference of £70 between the Ryzen 5700X3D and the 5800X3D, with the latter costing £300. With a future GPU upgrade planned to either an RTX 5080 Super or a 6080, would it be worth investing that extra cash? I've been holding off on moving to AM5 for now and will stick with AM4 for a bit more. Thanks for your input!

If you're weighing the performance, go for the 5800X3D if you think the £70 difference is justifiable for you. However, most people seem to lean towards the 5700X3D as a solid choice right now.

Honestly, the price for the 5800X3D is pretty outrageous. If you're gaming at 1080p with an RTX 3080, the 5700X3D seems a bit overpriced too. I'd suggest looking for a used 5800X if you're keen on upgrading; the performance is pretty minimal compared to those prices. Better to save for AM5 and the next-gen GPUs!

Exactly! I had a 3080 as well and swapped my 5800X for a 5700X3D. Honestly, saving up for the AM5 or next-gen graphics seems smarter than overspending right now.

If you're stuck on AM4 at the moment, maybe just hold onto your 5600X. Is it bottlenecking your 3080? It could be, but you seem to have some cash set aside for a 5700X3D or 5800X3D. Keeping it going until AM6 seems like a solid plan to me!

Yeah, I'm definitely hitting some bottlenecks with my 5600X. I'm planning to save a bit more for the 5700X3D or even the 5800X3D if I'm able to gather more funds. Gonna stick with AM4 until I have enough for a big upgrade!

Both of those options aren't really worth the ask right now. If they were more around £200, then it would have made sense. For your future RTX 5080, consider moving to AM5; £300 for the 5800X3D just isn't justifiable right now.

Absolutely! I'll hold off until I can upgrade my whole system architecture as well, no rush to spend unnecessarily now.
