Is the i9-9900K Still a Good Choice for Upgrading?

I've been using an i7-6700K and it's time for an upgrade. I'm considering a used bundle with an i9-9900K, motherboard, and 32GB of 3600MHz RAM for under $400. Is this a good deal, or are there better budget-friendly CPUs I should be looking at instead? Also, keep in mind that I live outside the US, which might affect prices and availability.

If you're looking for a used CPU, I’d recommend aiming for something like a Ryzen 5700X or even getting a full AM5 kit. They can outperform the i9-9900K in most gaming tasks and should fit your budget nicely, depending on the deals you find in your area.

Right! Plus, you won't have to deal with older tech holding you back.

I've also had great results with a 5700X; it plays all the latest games like a champ!

Honestly, I think $400 is a bit steep for the i9-9900K considering its age. You should explore AM4 deals or even look at Ryzen 5 7600. The performance gains are definitely worth it for modern gaming and multitasking.

I think you're onto something there. Recent CPUs are generally better priced and way more efficient.

Yeah, the 7600 is a great choice, especially for that budget!

Honestly, I wouldn't spend $400 on an i9-9900K. It's a solid chip but seems outdated for the price. I moved from the 9900K to a 9800X3D and the difference is noticeable. Plus, if you're upgrading, you could consider newer platforms that offer better stability and performance for similar cash.

Exactly! With the current pricing of parts, you can find better options that won't require replacing everything in a few years.

How's the boot time on your new setup? I'm really considering an upgrade myself!

You might want to think about going for an AM5 setup instead of the i9-9900K. For that price, you could get a brand new combo with something like a Ryzen 7500F, 32GB of RAM, and a motherboard. It's likely to perform better and be more future-proof.

GamerGeek99 -

Yeah, I just upgraded my setup and got better performance for the same price!

Totally! I checked and you can definitely find good new options under $400, especially if you're not in the US.
