Is the Integrated GPU on the 9800X3D Enough for Gaming and Light Work?

I'm building a new PC in the next couple of weeks, but I realized I won't have the budget for a dedicated GPU right away. I'm considering using the integrated GPU of the 9800X3D until Christmas when I can afford a proper graphics card. Do you think it's decent for playing games at low settings on 1080p and doing light tasks like coding? I'm mainly coding right now, but I know I'll need a good GPU for work in the future.

You might want to consider buying a very cheap used GPU instead of relying solely on the iGPU. Something like an RX 580 could give you decent performance without breaking the bank.

Yeah, I've seen RX 570s go for about $50. Perfect for 1080p on esports titles.

You’re spending extra on a high-end CPU but skimping on the GPU? That’s a bit odd. If you can't afford a good GPU, maybe go for a mid-range CPU instead.

Exactly! Sometimes it’s better to balance your build rather than over-invest in one part.

The iGPU should handle light games like CS:GO and LoL just fine at low settings, but don’t expect smooth performance in more demanding games. Stick to older or less resource-intensive titles for a better experience.

Honestly, the iGPU on the 9800X3D is pretty basic. It’s okay for simple tasks like browsing and coding, but don’t expect it to play modern games well. It’s more of a backup to let you get into your system after a GPU failure. For any real gaming or 3D tasks, you'll need a dedicated GPU.

I can confirm that it's not great for competitive games. Played Valorant with it and while the FPS was decent, the latency killed the fun.

It's great for regular tasks, but if gaming is a priority, you'll want to plan to get that dedicated GPU sooner rather than later. The waiting game could be tough!
