Is the Intel i3 or i5 better for my PC build with an RTX 5060?

I'm building a new PC and my budget doesn't allow for AMD options since they are too expensive in my area. My friends are telling me that the Intel i3 14100F won't be powerful enough to pair with an RTX 5060, and they're suggesting that I should invest in the i5 14400F instead. Can anyone help me figure out which one I should go for?

Just a heads up, there isn't an i5 14100F; that's the i3 you mentioned. The i5 lineup starts at the 14400F, just so you're aware. The 'F' means it doesn't have integrated graphics, which means you'll definitely need a GPU like your RTX 5060. Your friends have a point; the i3 is not ideal for a gaming setup.

It seems like the i3 should still be fine for the RTX 5060, but honestly, you would be better off with the i5 for a more future-proof build. The performance difference is pretty significant; going from an i3 to an i5 could feel like an upgrade of about 70-80%. I’d definitely lean toward the i5.

If you're looking at prices, the Ryzen 5 7500F is typically about $50 more than the i5 14400F. But since you mentioned you're not going for AMD, the i5 is probably your best bet.
