Is the RTX 5070 Good Enough for 1080p Gaming?

I'm planning to upgrade my graphics card from an RTX 2060 to an RTX 5070 soon. Currently, I game at 1080p but might think about moving to 1440p down the line (although that's unlikely since I'll be starting university in a year). I've heard that the 12GB of VRAM might be a bit underwhelming for a modern card. Should I wait for the 5070S based on the recent leaks, or will the regular 5070 suffice given that it's around 10% cheaper than MSRP where I live?

Yeah, the RTX 5070 should comfortably handle 1080p gaming. It's even beefy enough for 1440p in many cases. So if you're mainly playing at 1080p, you're in for a treat and will likely see great performance!

The 5070 is comparable to the 4070 Super, so it's pretty solid even for 1440p. Most games at 1080p will run at high frame rates. The 12GB VRAM is decent for 1080p but could become a bottleneck in demanding AAA games at 1440p. Still, for the price being 10% under MSRP, it sounds like a great deal!

Thanks for the info! I guess I should be fine for now and maybe think about upgrading after my first year of uni.

Definitely more than enough power for 1080p! You might struggle a bit if you crank everything up to the max or do some heavy path tracing, but for regular gaming, it should be smooth sailing.

I'd say it’s overkill for 1080p gaming! You've made a solid choice; just keep an eye on performance for the heavier titles if you go to 1440p later on.

Honestly, this place will probably tell you it’s overkill for 1080p and not quite enough for 1440p. But I'd say it's more than capable for both resolutions depending on what settings you choose!
