Is the RTX 5070 the Right Choice for My Upgrade?

I'm currently gaming on a GTX 1080 and I'm looking to upgrade my GPU. Initially, I aimed for something like the 5070 Ti or the RX 9070 XT, which both have at least 16GB of VRAM for future-proofing. However, they're just out of my budget. The RTX 5070 is going for 528€ and seems to be the best option within my price range. I primarily play at 1080p with a 144Hz refresh rate and don't plan to move up to 1440p anytime soon. Ray tracing isn't a huge priority for me, but I'm definitely interested in DLSS. My main concern is whether the 5070 can last me around five years based on my current gaming habits and if it's a sensible choice given the price difference with the RX 9070.

I'd suggest aiming for a card with 16GB of VRAM if you're looking at a long-term investment. Games are demanding more VRAM with time. That said, the 5070 can manage for 1080p, but consider that it might not age as gracefully compared to a card with larger VRAM capacity.

He mentioned he plays at 1080p; 16GB might not be necessary for that resolution, at least for now!

For 1080p gaming, the RTX 5070 will work wonders for you! 12GB of VRAM is more than enough to keep you going for the next five years without much hassle. Just think about the extra 100€ for the 9070 though; it could offer better longevity thanks to its enhanced specs. But if you're sticking with 1080p, the 5070 should be great!
