I've mostly been editing videos on Apple devices using DaVinci Resolve and I've just started incorporating Blender into my projects. My current setup is holding me back, so I'm planning to build a new PC that's more future-proof. I know Blender is optimized for CUDA and really benefits from having higher VRAM, which is why I'm looking at the RTX 5090. Plus, DaVinci Resolve seems to perform best with the new 50-series cards because of their codec optimizations, making the GPU more important than the CPU in my case.
Here's the build I'm considering: [PCPartPicker list](https://pcpartpicker.com/list/Xr84zP).
The downside is that I've been hearing reports about RTX 5090 cables melting, and that's got me worried about whether it's worth the investment. I can't get an RTX 4090 anymore where I live, so my only downgrade option seems to be the 5070 Ti, but it only has 16GB of VRAM, which feels too limiting. Has anyone dealt with this situation? I'm looking for safer alternatives or solutions to the 5090's power connector issue. Any suggestions would really help!

If you look into power limits, you might be able to get decent performance without the risk of the melting issue. There’s great data from Derbaur showing that reducing power to about 70% still gives you over 90% of the RTX 4090's performance. The same should apply to the 5090! Check out his findings for some solid reassurance before you decide.
I've seen a lot of posts about melting cables too, but remember, those often get more attention than the silent majority who haven’t had any issues. If you're really concerned, you could try limiting the power draw of the RTX 5090. There’s a guy named Blackwell who managed to achieve significant power consumption reduction with minimal performance loss by dropping it about 20%. That could be a safer option for you.
If you're considering alternatives, the RTX PRO 5000 has a whopping 48GB of VRAM and a low power draw, so that might solve your melting cable worry. But it's definitely on the pricier side. Just a heads up if you're way over budget with the RTX 5090, though!
Yeah, the PRO 5000 is pretty cool, but it just doesn't fit into my budget either. Might have to stick with the 5090 and just take my chances!
Also, remember that not everyone reports their issues online. So while the melting cables are definitely worrying, it might not be as widespread as it seems. Just weigh your options carefully. Good luck with your build!

Totally makes sense! It's easy to get caught up in the negative news while ignoring the majority who are perfectly fine. But still, daunting to think about investing so much with that risk!
