Is the Ryzen 5 8500G a Good Choice for My PC Build?

Hey everyone! I'm in the process of putting together a new PC with a Ryzen 5 8500G and an A620 motherboard. My primary uses will be 3D work and gaming. I plan to add a dedicated GPU in the future, so I'm considering using an APU for now. However, I'm a bit worried since I haven't found many reviews on the 8500G. I'm also concerned about the 4x PCIe limitation. What do you all think about this setup? Are there better APU options out there that fit my budget?

For sure, I'd go for a regular CPU and maybe find a used GPU to hold you over until you're ready to upgrade. It's a more future-proof solution.

The 4x PCIe limitation is a big deal if you plan to install a GPU later. I'd suggest looking at a regular 9000 series chip instead; they come with integrated GPUs that can help you get started without needing a dedicated card immediately.

Could you elaborate on that? I have a GIGABYTE B650M AX V2 paired with an ASUS 5080 TUF. Will I have the latest PCI version to make the most of my 5080?

That's true! I want something with an integrated GPU for my 3D work, especially since it will be my main system for a while.

Honestly, even if the APU performs better than the iGPUs in the 7000 or 9000 series, that 4x PCIe limit really hurts gaming performance with a dedicated GPU. If you plan to get a dedicated GPU, I wouldn't recommend the 8500G at all.

I get that, but my budget is tight. I was actually thinking about the Ryzen 7 5700G instead.

Just a hard pass on the 8500G. It's a really stripped-down version with only two full-speed cores. I think the r5-8600G is a way better choice because it can fully utilize all six cores without those limitations.
