Is the Ryzen 5950x Worth It Over the 5700x3d for Gaming?

I'm looking to upgrade my GPU from a 3060ti to a 5070ti, but I also need to upgrade my CPU. I want to avoid going for AM5 since it's quite pricey. I'm trying to decide if there's a significant difference in performance for 1440p gaming between the Ryzen 7 5700x3d and the Ryzen 9 5950x.

You won't notice a massive increase in max FPS with the 5950x, probably just a few percent at best. The X3D really shines in maintaining consistency during gameplay, reducing stutters. So for just gaming, the 5700x3d is a smart choice.

If you're primarily gaming, the 5700x3d is the way to go. The extra cores on the 5950x won't make much of a difference for gaming alone, but that increased cache on the X3D can enhance your experience, especially in terms of stability and lower frame drops. If you don’t need those extra cores, save your cash and go for the 5700x3d instead!

Totally agree! The 1% lows will be better with the X3D, making for smoother gameplay.

If gaming is your only concern, then the X3D is the clear winner here. The 5950x has some great specs, but for gaming, the 5700x3d holds its own and might even perform better. Plus, if you have a 5950x already, just holding onto it might be better unless you're feeling the grind to upgrade.

Honestly, if you're just gaming, go for the best X3D CPU you can afford. The 5700x3d will cover all your needs, and if you need something for productivity later, maybe consider the 5800x3d instead of stretching for the 5950x.

For 1440p, you might not even feel a need for more than the 8 cores in the 5700x3d, especially since it could handle most games without being CPU limited. The 5950x is cool for some titles, but the gap in performance shrinks at that resolution due to the GPU taking priority.

Exactly! It's all about how well the game uses the CPU. X3D will serve you better for gaming!
