I'm looking into getting a 1TB SSD for gaming and was considering the Samsung 870 EVO. I know NVMe drives are faster, but I'm not ready to make that upgrade right now. Is the 870 EVO a solid choice, or are there better and cheaper alternatives? Also, in the future, I might buy the Samsung 970 EVO Plus—are there any better options out there for that as well?

Honestly, the Samsung 870 EVO is a good SSD, especially if you're sticking with SATA for now. It's reliable, so you shouldn't have any major issues with it. For your future upgrade to the 970 EVO Plus, I'd suggest considering the 990 EVO Plus instead, as it offers better performance without blowing the budget too much.
That makes total sense. I guess the 970 is starting to feel a bit outdated compared to newer models!
