Is the Thermalright Peerless Assassin adequate for my Ryzen 7 9800X3D?

I recently built a new PC and I'm experiencing some serious overheating issues, particularly when playing The Oblivion remake and occasionally in The Last of Us. After completing the first quest in Oblivion, my CPU shoots up to 95°C and causes my PC to shut down. From what I can tell, the game pushes the CPU to nearly 100% usage. While it could be a game bug, since the overheating happened in another title as well, I think there might be an issue with my cooling. Could this be due to improper thermal paste application? Or should I consider getting a different cooler? Just to clarify, I did remove the plastic from the cooler. Here are my specs: Ryzen 7 9800X3D, Thermalright Peerless Assassin, Asus TUF GAMING B650-E WIFI ATX AM5, G.Skill Flare X5 32 GB (2 x 16 GB) DDR5-6000, Samsung 990 Pro 4 TB, Zotac GAMING SOLID OC GeForce RTX 5070 Ti 16 GB, NZXT H9 Flow ATX Mid Tower Case, Corsair RM850 850 W.

You shouldn't be hitting such high temperatures with that setup. Make sure the cooler is properly mounted and that the thermal paste is applied evenly. Also, take a look at your energy profile settings and check if your chipset drivers are up to date.

My buddy had the same issue. Seriously, just make sure you removed the plastic from the bottom of the cooler. It’s a crucial step that can be easily overlooked and can cause crazy heat issues.

The Thermalright Peerless Assassin should definitely be adequate for the Ryzen 7 9800X3D. First things first, double-check that you've removed the protective plastic from the cooler before applying it. That’s a common oversight! Also, ensure that you're using the right amount of thermal paste. A little too much or too little can affect heat transfer significantly.

I run a 12900K with a Peerless Assassin, and it performs just fine with the X3D as well. You should be good as long as everything is installed correctly. Just double-check those mounting points and your thermal paste application!

I’ve got a similar setup, and my temps stay under 75°C without any issues. It's definitely manageable, so something might be off with your cooling installation. Also, remember to confirm that the plastic wrap has been removed!
